Dynamics of reallocation within India’s income distribution

چکیده
Abstract It is well known that inequality has been rising in India the recent past, but assumption while rich benefit more than proportionally from economic growth, poor are also better off before. Our modelled outcomes (using RGBM framework) cast doubt on this proposition. We find income share dynamics consistent with a negative reallocation since early 2000s, i.e., Indian distribution possibly entered regime of perverse redistribution resources to rich. model suggests historically low-income shares bottom decile (~ 1%) and percentile 0.03%) due decline real incomes 2000s. qualified support for these theoretical predictions using data. characterize findings context increasing informalization workforce formal manufacturing service sectors as growing insecurity agricultural India. Significant structural changes will be required address phenomenon.

Two-Factor Model of Income Distribution Dynamics
This paper analyzes empirical income distributions and proposes a simple stochastic model to explain the stationary distribution and deviations from it. Using the individual tax returns data in the U.S. and Japan for 40 years, we first summarize the shape of income distribution by an exponential decay up to about the 90th percentile of income and a power decay for the top 1 percent. We then pro...
متن کاملHuman Capital and Income Distribution Dynamics
The paper assumes a continuum of two period-lived agents; agents are identical except for the inherited income. Young agents optimally allocate their inherited income between consumption and investment in human capital in a stochastic environment. In the second period they receive a wage proportional to the accumulated human capital and invest in o®spring. Two main results are provided: a low e...
متن کاملModeling of Real Estate Income Tax: System Dynamics Approach
This study aims to design a model to realize real estate income tax in Tabriz city with due attention to the tax collection process. According to the related literature, the variables of "tax payment," "real estate," "tax evasion," "investment incentive," "rent and real estate speculation," and "advertisement in tax collection" are considered as key variables, affecting the conceptual model of ...
متن کاملSpatial Analysis of City Income Distribution Dynamics in China
We employ Quah’s [13] transitional matrix and Rey’s [16] Spatial Clustering Index (SCI) to analyze the dynamics in Chinese city income distribution both from temporal and spatial dimensions. Our empirical results show that cities in eastern China enjoy more favorable movements in income distribution during urban post-reform era compared with her western and central counterparts; the dynamic spa...
